Police are appealing for witnesses to a murder in Thornton Heath, after a man was shot in broad daylight on Frant Road last week.

Shawn Freckleton, 25, of Elephant & Castle, died from shot gun wounds on Tuesday, April 9, after he was shot at around 2pm the same day.

The victim was walking down Frant Road from the Bencham Road end, after parking his dark J-registration Toyota, when his killer approached and shot him outside number 76.

Mr Freckleton was taken to Mayday Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

A post mortem at Thornton Heath mortuary the same day gave cause of death as gunshot wounds, and an inquest was opened and adjourned at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday.

An incident room has opened at Putney under DCI Duncan Wilson of Operation Trident.

DCI Wilson said: "It is possible his killer was observing him as he walked down the road. He might have been observing him from a car parked in the road, or concealing himself in a doorway of one of the houses.

"Although this is a quiet area, Frant Street is used by staff at nearby Mayday Hospital. As it was 2 o'clock, it is possible people were coming or going on shift around this time.

"We are asking people to think back to whether they saw anything of the incident or if they saw anyone hanging around."

The police want to speak to a man seen in the road at the time of the shooting. He is described as black, in his mid 20s, of medium build and wearing a white baseball cap, black jacket, dark trousers, white trainers with a red flash on them. He was carrying a green or white plastic carrier bag.
