A GLASGOW branch of the Fopp record shop chain has been saved from closure after a protest from customers and musicians.
The Byres Road branch was due to close after Canadian firm Sunrise Records bought the collapsed music chain.
The firm bought 100 stores across the UK out of administration, securing 1,487 jobs.
But 27 stores were to close, including the Byres Road outlet.
Executives have now decided to reopen the Byres Road branch after a "groundswell of support".
Following the announcement, the hashtag SaveFoppByresRoad quickly flourished on Twitter.
A spokesman for HMV said: "Following successful negotiations, we can confirm that the iconic Fopp Byers Road store will re-open for business on February 9.
"This is the best outcome for everyone and we are delighted to share the good news with all those who have been so supportive over the past weeks.

"There has been a huge amount of goodwill and a tremendous groundswell of support for this store in particular, with many customers and media campaigns calling for it to be re-opened.
"We would like to thank all of the bands and musicians, and especially our amazing customers, whose support cannot be underestimated."
Sunrise Records chief executive Doug Putman added: "I am proud to say we have the most knowledgeable and committed staff, and it gives me great pleasure to see such a well loved and renowned part of Scottish music retail history open for business ready to welcome all of our loyal customers once again."
Broadcaster Janice Forsyth was among those who urged Putman to reconsider the closure of Byres Road saying that it was "more than a shop, a much-loved Glasgow institution – a busy hub with brilliant staff, fab books and music – frequented by music fans of all ages, bands, musicians including big names."
Film composer Paul Leonard-Morgan was another supporter saying: "#fopp is where we all started out in Glasgow, buying all our vinyl and cds from their suck-it-and-see for a fiver collection. Would never have discovered Buena Vista Social Club or northern soul (drum samples anyone?) An institution."
Mogwai front man Stuart Braithwaite also spoke out, saying: "Sad to see Fopp on Byres Road on the list of shops closing due to HMV going under new ownership. The staff there are lovely and it’s been a great place to buy music for as long as I remember."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
