A SENIOR Tory MP has said she was “absolutely appalled” by one of her male colleagues blocking a bill protecting girls from female genital mutilation.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Liz Truss called Sir Christopher Chope’s action “completely unacceptable”.

The backbencher, who previously blocked a bill banning upskirting by shouting ‘Object’, used the same parliamentary device to block the FGM bill last Friday, prompting outrage.

Ms Truss told Sky News’ Sophy Ridge on Sunday: “When I see one of my colleagues opposing a measure which could have saved girls’ lives, could have saved girls from that horrendous experience, I’m absolutely appalled.

“I’m going to be speaking to him this week. I want to see him change his mind.

“I want to see the Conservative Party make sure we show that that is completely unacceptable.”
