Edinburgh's schools are falling behind those of every other council in Scotland with just one making the top ten in the 2019 Scottish school league tables.

According to new anaylsis by The Herald, Boroughmuir High School in Fountainbridge is one of the country's top performing state schools, with 71 percent of school-leavers achieving five or more Highers.

Overall, 33 per cent of pupils in the Capital attained five or more awards at SCQF level six, equivalent to Highers in the previous curriculum.

Last year, Boroughmuir came fourth in the league table with 74 per cent of school-leavers achieving five or more Highers.

We revealed today in our annual league table how eight of the top ten state schools in the country came from the west of Scotland, with Glasgow's Jordanhill School landing the top spot.

The school - the only state-funded secondary not in council control - improved its performance on last year when 81 per cent of pupils achieved the benchmark.

Dr Paul Thomson, rector of Jordanhill, said its position in the table reflected the philosophy of supporting all pupils.
