A man needed hospital treatment after he was attacked in a garden by a man wielding a bat.

The victim, aged 51, was in a garden in Mayville Street, Stevenston when the “violent assault” happened at around 8.40pm on Thursday.

A man and woman approached him and the man then struck the victim repeatedly with a bat before running off with his companion in an unknown direction.

The injured man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he was treated for his injuries and then released.

Police are appealing for information about the incident in the North Ayrshire town.

Detective Bryn Meehan at Saltcoats CID said: “We are trying to establish a motive for this violent assault which left the victim with several injuries to his head and body.

“At this time we have no description of the man and woman involved and I’d appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Mayville Street, Stevenston around 8.40 pm on Thursday 28 March 2019 and who can recall seeing a man and woman either hanging around suspiciously prior to the assault or running off afterwards to contact police immediately.”
