Police have consulted prosecutors about Scott Brown's behaviour during Sunday's Old Firm game.
It comes as the Celtic captain was accused of deliberately 'goading' Rangers players at the game at Parkhead on Sunday.
He faced widespread criticism following the incident, including from Steven Gerrard who said he 'would've gone' for the player.
However, a spokeswoman for Police Scotland said chiefs were content with the incident.
She added: "After consulting with the Crown Office and reviewing the circumstances, Police Scotland is content that the actions of players at the Celtic v Rangers SPFL match on Sunday March 31 2019 were in the wider context of a sporting event.
"The actions of the players involved are for the relevant sporting authorities to address."
A mass brawl erupted on the pitch at Parkhead when Andy Halliday, the Rangers left back, lunged at Brown following the final whistle in the Ladbrokes Premiership match.
Steven Gerrard questioned why the midfielder had felt the need to stand in front of the Rangers supporters after a game the Ibrox club had lost 2-1.
However, interim Celtic manager Lennon felt that Brown, who had been elbowed in the face by Alfredo Morelos and pushed to the ground by Ryan Kent, had been entitled to react in such a provocative manner.

Speaking following the incident, Steven Gerrard said: "Celtic are well within their rights to celebrate. They’ve won the game and they’ve stretched their lead.
"We celebrated when we won the last Old Firm game, so you are well within your rights.
“But I can’t understand why a guy (Brown) then decides to celebrate 10 yards away from the two per cent of Rangers fans when they’re 98 percent home support. Andy went in to protect his own people – I would have probably done that myself.”
Neil Lennon took a different stance on the matter.

He added: "Browny got elbowed and then he got punched or pushed in the face. It’s disgraceful.
“You can’t put the two in one basket. Our players kept their discipline very well and Rangers should have been down to nine men rather than ten.
“Scott Brown is Scott Brown. He is a veteran of these games and was brilliant again today. He knows how to handle the occasion, how to handle the opposition, he knows how to handle himself. He doesn’t need any advice from me.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
