A Glasgow school is aiming to smash a world record by completing 5,000 miles in just 12 hours.
St Cadoc’s Youth Club, based in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire will be attempting a new world record in a 5000-mile challenge on Sunday 28th April from 6am to 6pm.
The club is aiming to try and raise £100,000 towards the purchase of their own sporting facility.
The event will include everyone from experienced marathon runners to the kids themselves, who running, or walking will all contribute what they can. Other supports include Paul Masterton, MP for Westminster Parliament, who will be popping by with his constituency and his running shoes, along with other well-wishers including Alex McLeish and Robert Snodgrass from the Scotland team themselves.
St Cadoc’s Youth Club was first established in 1987 by Mr David Jones for the children of St Cadoc’s school to participate in Football and Netball. Now some 30 years on, the club has grown beyond the boundaries of the school and includes players from all East Renfrewshire schools and beyond, forming a successful youth club of which the management, parents and players are all extremely proud.
The club’s aim is to give kids within the Renfrewshire and surrounding area's an opportunity to enjoy and develop their football & Netball skills in a safe and secure environment, with the full support and backing of our club coaches – all of the club coaches have the relevant SYFA coaching certificates and have been fully Disclosure Scotland checked.
St Cadoc’s now have in excess of 900 kids across 12 different age groups, ranging from kids aged 4, 5 & 6 all the way through to under 21’s and have exhausted council facilities which now cannot deliver their community outreach programme which includes sporting activities for both kids and adults with additional support needs.
There will be a gala event on the day as well as a number of activities for all to take part in.
