Edinburgh Zoo have welcomed three new arrivals to their penguin enclosure - just in time for World Penguin Day.

Three Northern Rockhopper penguin chicks have joined the crew, and are just a few days old.

The zoo took to social media to announce the news, and were met with hundreds of animal-lovers responding with plans to visit the new additions.

It comes as part of their World Penguin Day celebrations: a national day celebrating the date the Adelie penguins begin their migration northward towards Antartica.

Adorable footage shows the tiny chicks hanging out on a nest of peddles with their parents.

They will remain on the nests until they reach around three months.

Edinburgh Zoo say they hope the birds will help raise awareness about the threats their species face in the wild as their numbers decline.

They're currently in danger from pollution, hunting and climate change.
