Dozens of people were stopped by police a week on from the brutal murder of a man in Thornliebank.

Detectives investigating the murder of Anthony Ferns carried out a stop and interview operation a week on from his death.

Officers spoke to over 40 people between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Thursday, including dog walkers, people coming home from work, a number of vehicles and two buses.

Anthony Ferns was attacked while sitting in his blue Audi A3 on Crebar Street, at its junction with Roukenburn Street.

He then drove a short distance to his home address in Roukenburn Street where he got out of the car, walked across the road and collapsed in front of his mother and friends.

Emergency services were called around 10.20pm, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The results of a post-mortem revealed the victim died from stab wounds.

It is believed a car passed the 33-year-old victim as he was stabbed to death but the occupants of the car are still being sought by police.

The information gathered from the operation is now being assessed by officers and any relevant lines of inquiry will be followed up.

Police have described the suspect as white, between 20 and 30 years of age and around 5 ft. 8 – 6 ft. in height. At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit and possibly a light coloured baseball cap..

Detective Chief Inspector Grant MacLeod said: “Our aim last night was to speak to as many people as possible in an effort to jog their memories. People may have seen something that appeared insignificant at the time but now they know that a murder has taken place, it may strike some meaning.

"As part of our ongoing enquiries we gather as much information as possible, no matter how small, as once it is pieced together it could provide a clearer picture of what has happened.
