THE body of a woman has been found behind a property in Govanhill.

Cops were alerted to the grim discovery in the South Side's Albert Road on Saturday around 2.40pm.

False reports had claimed the woman's body had been found inside a wheelie bin over the weekend.

But cops dismissed the claims and said the tragic discovery was made at the rear of a house in the area.

The woman's death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 2.40pm on Saturday, April 27, police received a report that the body of a woman had been discovered at the rear of a property in Albert Road, Glasgow.

"The body is still formally to be identified and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death which is also being treated as unexplained at this time."

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
