Theresa May has announced she will be resigning as Prime Minister.

Delivering a speech outside of Downing, Theresa May announced she would be stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party, highlighting her successes in Government.

Her voice cracking and close to tears, Mrs May said she had tried her best to get her Brexit deal through parliament but had failed.

The Prime Minister broke down as she said it had been “the honour of my life” to serve “the country that I love”.

She is standing down as Tory party leader on Friday June 7 with the State Visit of Donald Trump expected to be one of her last formal engagements.
