For six years, the Inspiring City Awards have brought people together to showcase the talents and success stories of businesses, educational institutions, individuals and charities from across the city who are making a contribution to the cultural and economic climate – all going the extra mile and making Glasgow thrive.
This is why The Herald and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce are once again teaming up to provide a platform to recognise the citizens and organisations who are working at every level – in the local community, sport, education, industry, culture, arts and the environment at the seventh annual Inspiring City Awards.
Returning in 2019, the awards have a fresh identity designed to bring Glasgow into the heart of the brand. The new logo features the iconic skyline of the city, and some of the buildings which have inspired Glaswegians for generations.
Glasgow has a long and distinguished history of innovators, pioneers and traders who have made their mark and continue to do so on the world stage. At the 2018 awards more than 400 of the most inspirational people gathered to hear and reward some of the amazing things happening in the city.
Winners on the evening included Flora Kerr, Allied Vehicles, CeFrRI, Clare Cannon, Tennents Training Academy, UTD Sports, Tron Theatre, Sticky Heelz, Friends of Glasgow’s Local Nature Reserves, Andrew Duncan, Jonathan Wilcox, Asma Mohammed, Glasgow Taxis, Glasgow Tigers Speedway and Dagmawi Belay. The Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Dr Adele Patrick of Glasgow Women’s Library.
Working with our 2019 partners, Cala Homes West, DYW Glasgow, Glasgow Airport, Glasgow School for Business and Society at Glasgow Caledonian University, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Volunteer Glasgow, it is now time for us to once again recognise the organisations and individuals who inspire Glaswegians today.
Professor John Lennon, Dean of Glasgow School for Business and Society at Glasgow Caledonian University and sponsor of our Best Corporate Social Responsibility Category, said: “We are delighted to support these awards, which showcase the world-class performance of companies and organisations within Glasgow. In 2019 we are also introducing a new category, with new partners Volunteer Glasgow.
The Alistair Malloy Award for Inclusive Volunteering will recognise volunteering initiatives that can evidence an inclusive approach involving people from all sections of the community it serves.
David Maxwell, the Acting Chief Executive at Volunteer Glasgow, said: “We are delighted to work with The Herald and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce to ensure people’s contributions to Glasgow are recognised. ART & CULTURE AWARD
This category will reward an individual/organisation that has enhanced the reputation of Glasgow’s cultural ambitions on the global stage. This category will embrace all art forms, including architecture, performances and events.
BEST CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AWARD
This category will recognise an individual or group within an organisation who has inspired actions that make a significant difference to the wellbeing of the community in which they operate.

CARER(S) OF THE YEAR AWARD
This category will recognise a very special care worker or team who work in the care profession or perhaps someone who looks after a relative, neighbour or friend providing care and support to them or within their local community. INNOVATION IN BUSINESS AWARD
This award will recognise outstanding innovation in a business, a person or organisation that pushes the boundaries of their industry and has encouraged, inspired and fostered business growth and development in the city. Judges will examine how an innovation or business concept has been developed and applied to deliver improvements in the business process, developments of
new products or services improved the levels of efficiency, staff moral and/or local community.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD
This award will recognise an outstanding contribution to enhance Glasgow’s environment and/or combating climate change across the city.
EDUCATION AWARD
This award will recognise a pioneering achievement by an individual or institution that has made an impact on the learning and development of Glasgow citizens at all levels.
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION BY A BUSINESS LEADER
This award will recognise an individual at the forefront of business who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and commitment to Glasgow. Judges will look for someone who inspires others through their contribution with exceptional commitment, motivation, effort and vision.
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION BYA YOUNG BUSINESS LEADER
This award will recognise a young individual (under 35) at the forefront of business who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and commitment to Glasgow. Judges will look for someone who inspires others through their contribution with exceptional commitment, motivation,
effort and vision.
SPORT AWARD
To recognise an outstanding achievement that has fostered the development of sport in the city. They may have inspired others to become more active, been a role model or helped secure facilities and funding within their local communities, region or throughout Scotland.
INDUSTRY & YOUNG PEOPLE INNOVATION AWARD
This category will recognise where industry has created an innovative project that has proven to make a significant difference to young people in the city. We want to hear about the main aims and objectives of the project and a short description of the activities undertaken by the partnership.

LEGACY AWARD
Judges will assess how projects, businesses, individuals and communities can create lasting change across Glasgow. For example, has your business successfully secured new contracts or has your community been improved by new facilities and greater engagement. We want to hear about
