A number of people have been injured following an explosion in Linkoping in southern Sweden.

Reuters reports that 19 people have sustained minor injuries in an incident in an apartment block in central Linkoping, however, local reports suggest up to 25 people have been injured.

Images show significant damage to a property in a residential street.

The explosion has blown out windows and destroyed balconies in the buildings in Linkoping, about 110 miles southwest of Stockholm.

A police spokesperson said: "We have no suspects, cannot rule out that it is an accident, but work from the fact that it is a criminal act"

It is unknown what caused the explosion, with emergency services and a bomb squad rushing to the scene just after 7am GMT.

14 ambulances have attended the scene with the university hospital in Linköping going into "disaster mode"

A spokeswoman at Linkoping University Hospital said several people had been taken to hospital after the incident but that she did not know exactly how many.
