An abusive care home worker employed in Glasgow, who dragged an elderly woman by the wrist and the armpit has been struck off.

David Chambers, who worked as a care assistant at Beechwood Care Home in Wishaw, also tied a knot in the dressing gown of the OAP that was so tight she was unable to undo it.

The Evening Times reports that the incidents happened while Chambers was employed by Tower Bridge Homes Care Limited, which was forced to suspend four care workers last year after shocking images emerged of 'half-naked' staff mocking OAPs.

An inquiry by social work chiefs found that on more than one occasion, Chambers pushed the same woman to her room “holding her elbow against her will” and pulled her so roughly she almost fell.

Other charges found proved by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) included refusing to allow another resident from going to bed when she wanted to and shouting at another to, “go to your room to watch TV.”

The incidents happened between July 25 2014 and August 11, 2017.

In September last year, four care workers at the same home were suspended after images emerged of half-naked care workers cavorting and wearing an OAP's wig.

The pictures were described as “truly horrific” by an elderly charity with the care home said it was "deeply appalled and disgusted" by their employees' behaviour.

It came weeks after another care worker, employed at the same home, was struck off after she put an elderly woman with dementia in ‘solitary confinement’ as a punishment for requesting more food.

The home was inspected on April 25 this year and was rated 'very good' for treating residents with "compassion, dignity and respect" and supporting their wellbeing.
