Glasgow Airport workers will go on strike for an additional four hour period, Unite the union has announced.

The four hour stoppage will take place on Monday June 24 between 6am and 10am, just four days before city schools go out on summer holidays.

The announcement comes after workers walked out today for 12-hours between 4am and 4pm over a dispute regarding pay and pensions.

The same 12-hour strike also took place on Friday, causing some disruption for passengers.

Today's strike however caused no disruption, according to airport bosses, AGS Airports.

This additional action adds to more planned strikes for June 14 between 4am and 8am and June 21 between 8.30am and 2.30pm.

Pat McIlvogue, Unite regional industrial officer, said: “Unite has repeatedly offered to meet Glasgow Airport management at any time, at any place and under any auspices to find a resolution to this dispute.

"This is not a matter of debate, it’s a fact."

Airport bosses, AGS, said: "Despite the best efforts of the unions to cause disruption for the travelling public, we have kept our airports open ensuring thousands of passengers and hundreds of flights have been able to travel and operate safely.

“We want to resolve this dispute and if they are serious about getting back round the table then we would call on them to end the strike. Until they do our focus will be on ensuring they do not cause disruption for passengers and airlines.”
