TORY donors have splashed out as the great and the good of the Conservative Party attended their annual fundraising summer ball in a private club in London.

One rich benefactor bid £15,000 for a hunting trip to Scotland, described as an “opportunity to take a 20-bird, high-quality pheasant shoot in Dumfriesshire”. The lucky winner will be able to take seven friends to Raehills House with “dinner, accommodation and breakfast included for eight guns”.

Present at the bash were Theresa May – who received a standing ovation – and her would-be successors Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt.

Other items for sale were a £27,000 all-expenses paid trip to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and a signed photograph of Mr Johnson and David Cameron.
