Four people have died and another left fighting for life after a weekend of carnage on Scottish roads.

Yvonne Lumsden, 35, from Aberdeenshire, died after a crash between a car and a pick-up truck at around 4pm on Friday.

A 33-year-old man and two children aged six and four were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A pensioner died after being hit by a quad bike which mounted the kerb in Knightswood, Glasgow.

The 75-year-old was mown down at around 3.10pm on Saturday and died at the scene.

A 23-year-old man was arrested and released pending further inquiries. 

In Fife, two pedestrians died after being hit by a car on the A911 at Glenrothes.

The 59-year-old woman and 61-year-old man were struck by a grey Ford Fiesta at around 10.10am on Saturday.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The 20-year-old man driving the Fiesta suffered minor injuries in the fatal collision.

Another woman was left with serious injuries following a crash involving a police car in the Borders.

A marked police vehicle was responding to a call when it hit a BMW  near Peebles at around 7.20pm on Saturday, coming to rest on its side.

A 36-year-old woman who was a passenger in the BMW was taken to Borders General Hospital after the crash where she remains in a serious condition.

The 44-year-old man who was driving the BMW and two children, aged five and one, were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The 25-year-old driver of the police car was treated for minor injuries.
