A cyclist was filmed battling through heavy flooding in Edinburgh.

Footage also showed a number of cars stuck in deep floodwater at a roundabout near Edinburgh Airport on Tuesday night.

Fire crews, who recused one man from his car, were dispatched to A8 exit of the airport's underpass roundabout to attempt to clear the roads of water at around 6.40pm.

Kris Lukis, who filmed the scene at about 6:30pm, said there were five cars stranded in the floodwater but the cyclist was "wheels deep" and showed some "true Scottish spirit" to get through the water.

Kris, who was on his way home from work, told Edinburgh Evening News that buses headed to the airport were letting passengers out before the roundabout and that they had to cross the dual carriageway to get to the airport.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "At 6.42pm we were called to Edinburgh Airport underpass after reports of cars stuck in flood water.

"One appliance was sent to the scene and assisted one male to safety."

The Herald:
