Psychiatric reports have been ordered in the case of a 17-year-old accused of throwing a six-year-old French boy from a viewing platform at the Tate Modern art gallery, a court has been told.

The teenager appeared briefly in the dock at the Old Bailey on Thursday lunchtime for an administrative hearing.

He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address and British nationality during the 22-minute hearing.

The suspect, who was wearing a blue T-shirt, was flanked by two security guards throughout.

The court was told that psychiatric reports had been ordered, and that any trial would be listed to last two weeks and would be held in the new year.

No pleas were entered and the teenager was remanded in custody.

No update was given on the condition of the victim, who was airlifted to hospital after he was found on a fifth-floor roof at the London tourist attraction on Sunday afternoon.

A reporting restriction bans the identities of both the victim and the defendant being made public.

During his first appearance at Bromley Youth Court on Tuesday, the hearing was told that the young boy had suffered a bleed on the brain and fractures to his spine, legs and arms.

The youth court heard that the six-year-old was at the gallery with his parents and they were on the viewing platform "looking over the side and enjoying the view" when the boy was allegedly picked up and thrown over the edge in an action that was "carried out extremely swiftly and in one movement".

The latest court appearance came as a crowdfunding appeal for the victim raised more than £15,000 within 24 hours of being set up.
