GREEN MP Caroline Lucas has called for an all-female emergency government into block a no-deal Brexit and hold a second EU referendum.

She made the offer to Nicola Sturgeon, LibDem leader Jo Swinson, Plaid Cymru’s Liz Saville Robert, Tory Justine Greening, Change UK’s Anna Soubry, Independent MP Heidi Allen and others

The Guardian reported the Brighton MP saying a cabinet of women from across the political spectrum would “work for reconciliation” rather than fight new political battles.

She said: “Why women? Because I believe women have shown they can bring a different perspective to crises, are able to reach out to those they disagree with and cooperate to find solutions.”

Ms Allen said: “Women are by nature less tribal, so I’m very willing to play my part and try.”

But Ms Soubry said “If you’re trying to stop no-deal Brexit then the key thing is to bring people together, not to divide them on the basis of gender.”

Shadow home secretary Diane Abbott tweeted that a national government “didn’t work for Ramsey Mcdonald [sic] and won’t work now, whatever the gender of participants”.

Tory MP James Cleverly added: “You didn’t try voting for the deal though did you? When you say ‘try everything’ do you mean ‘try everything, except the one thing guaranteed to prevented a no-deal Brexit’, ie leaving with a deal?”
