An 'explosion' in Renfrew could be heard from the city centre this morning, and caused plumes of black smoke to travel across Glasgow.

Fire crews raced to Meadowside Street at around 12.48am on Friday to reports a number of vehicles were on fire.

The blaze spread to an adjacent roof, and local residents on social media reported hearing 'metallic sounds' for some time afterwards.

Other residents say they heard a 'huge explosion' during the night, and they said there were 'lots of flames and smoke'.

The blast could be heard from as far as Knightswood - around eight miles away from the blaze.
