Light Glasgow, the nightclub in Merchant city that opened in 2013, has announced its closure on social media.
Opening in Royal Exchange Square, Light Glasow hosted a number of celebrity visitors but announced yesterday that it was to close its doors for good.
The club wrote on their Facebook page:
‘’After SIX years of Light, from the bottom of our hearts its Lights out, all out.
"We have partied long and hard and all good things must come to an end. We've had our final party and the light's have been switched off.
"We would like to thank our customers, staff and followers for all the support. The decision to close wasn’t easy but we know it’s what’s right. The concept worked for almost six years, but the times changed and we need to move with what’s current. Stay tuned as the new beginning takes over Royal Exchange Square #LightGlasgow #LightsOUT #DidYouHEAR.’’
The Evening Times understands that Light Glasgow's closure will make way for a new concept.
Many people took to the comments to express their dismay at the club closing.
One Facebook user wrote "heartbroken" and another wrote "This was our place like 5 years ago!! Sooo many fab memories!!!"
Some commenters said that this wasn't the first time that the nightclub had rebranded itself.
One wrote: "Won't be long to it [sic] re opens under a different name first it was karbon then 212 then light.... Too many "wannabe clubs" it will jut be a rebrand and then open again in 6 months after a refurb... just watch."
Reece Donnelly, the PR Representative for Light Glasgow, told the Evening Times exclusively:
“It’s with great sadness we announce the closure of Light Glasgow. A club which has been in the city for 6 years, hosting the best parties and a wide range of huge names.
"The decision wasn’t easy but with fresh management taking over the venue, I’m sure the new concept will steal the hearts of the Glasgow crowd, as they embark on a huge refurb the city will be excited for what’s next."
