AN exhibition of artwork relating to LCD Soundsystem has its UK premiere in Glasgow next month.

Images by the popular Brooklyn band’s photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya and a series of related paintings by Scottish artist Joe Henry will be on show for a month at SWG3’s Acid Bar.

James Murphy, Nancy Whang and the rest of the LCD gang made thousands of fans dance at SWG3’s Galvanisers Yard in May 2018 and soon the multi-arts venue will celebrate the visual history of the band through a display of 23 one-off images by Wijesooriya and paintings by Henry, who curates the art show following successful exhibitions on Amy Winehouse and Andy Warhol.

Henry says: “Ruvan is the official photographer for LCD and has the best collection of the band I have ever seen. His access and friendship with LCD is something rare in the commercialized and controlled music industry of today, and this close relationship can be seen in the rapport between photographer and subject.”

Henry continues: “His work is purely documentary style, living with the band in LA and NYC and documenting them in the studio, on the road and live.

“We both discussed collaborating on this exhibition and me doing remixes of his original photography, putting my own pop art spin on top of his photos.”

All artworks will be available for purchase during the exhibition, which will open from 6pm on October 3 with a free exclusive DJ set from Optimo’s JD Wilkes.

October 3 to November 2, SWG3, Glasgow, open daily, free. www.swg3.tv
