BoyleSports said it had cut the odds on a Yes vote from 5/6 to 8/11 amid the fallout from the ongoing Brexit wrangles.

The betting firm is giving even odds on the likelihood of a No vote in a second Scottish independence referendum.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Calls are growing for a second referendum in Scotland and supporters of the status quo have plenty to be concerned about according to the bets we’re seeing.

"The odds are now clearly in favour of a vote for independence and we have no choice but to make it an odds-on prospect should the vote materialise.”

In 2014, voters in Scotland rejected independence by 55 per cent to 45%.

However, Nicola Sturgeon has said she wants to hold a second poll towards the end of 2020, arguing that public feeling has shifted since the 2016 EU referendum when a majority of Scots voted Remain in the face of a UK-wide vote of 52% in favour of leaving the bloc.
