Police have launched an investigation after a woman was raped in a Glasgow city centre lane.

Our sister title The Evening Times reports a cordon is in place between Hope Street and Wellington Street with officers stationed at either side.

The force confirmed that they received a report of the rape on Friday, September 20, but did not provide further details on what time the attack happened.

They insisted that their enquiries were at an early stage.

A force spokeswoman said: "Enquiries are ongoing in the area of West George Lane following a report of a serious sexual assault on a 28-year-old woman on Friday 20 September 2019.  Enquiries are at a very early stage."
