A broken down train just outside of Glasgow Central station is causing major disruption for rail passengers.

Services between the city centre station and Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Paisley are expected to be delayed until at least 5.45pm.

ScotRail announced just before 2pm that they were dealing with a broken down train, with engineers called to the site just south of the Clyde.

Replacement bus services have been implemented between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmore Street.

Just after 3.20pm, ScotRail confirmed that the train had been taken to the depot but lengthy delays are still to be expected.

They tweeted: "UPDATE: We've got the faulty train back in the depot.

"Our control team are doing their best to get trains back on the move ASAP.

"However, the scale of the disruption has left our trains and crews out of place, so it will take some time to services back to normal."

Elsewhere, a signalling problem at Barrhead meant services between Central and the East Renfrewshire town have been suspended.

Engineers have been called to fix the issue.
