Boris Johnson dodged questions over his links with an American businesswoman following allegations over their personal relationship during a visit to a hospital.

The prime minister refused to answer when asked about “repeated” visits he reportedly made to the flat of Jennifer Arcuri while he was mayor of London following a storm of claims over an alleged affair between the two.

Mr Johnson has denied showing “favourable treatment” to the tech entrepreneur after claims she joined trade missions led by the then-mayor and saw her company receive thousands in grants.

It came just hours after Ms Arcuri confirmed Mr Johnson had visited an office in her Shoreditch flat “a handful of times” in an interview with Good Morning Britain.

Mr Johnson was asked about the claim during the visit to Watford Hospital but did not give an answer to the question, stating only: “"I've really said everything I want to say about that."

The Greater London Authority's (GLA) monitoring officer has since referred the prime minister to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).

Mr Johnson has until Tuesday to confirm whether he will appear in front of the watchdog, however refused to give an answer when pressed on the issue.

Asked if he breached the GLA code of conduct, the prime minister denied the accusation, adding he had “said everything he was going to say” on the topic.

Johnson was then pressed on an appearance in front of the regulator, however again refused to answer the question, preferring instead to talk about the government’s £400 million refurbishment of the medical facility.

Earlier, Ms Arcuri had appeared on the ITV morning programme, but similarly did not answer questions on their personal life.

Speaking to host Piers Morgan, she said Mr Johnson had not had anything to do with her other achievements.

She added: “Because the press has made me this objectified ex-model pole dancer, I am really not going to answer that question.

“I am not going to be putting myself in a position for you to weaponise my answer.”

“It’s really not anyone’s business what private life we had.”
