One of the strongest ever shortlists has been named for the 2019 Herald Society Awards. The annual event showcases the most exciting, innovative or sometimes simply the most determined work in Scotland's public and voluntary sectors.

From projects tackling poverty, organised crime, homelessness or waste to individuals helping lone parents, cancer charities and people with dementia, there is truly something for everyone in our 12 categories.

The full list of finalists for this years's awards is revealed today, with the winners revealed at a gala dinner in Glasgow on November 6th.

With a bumper entry, it was a difficult job for our esteemed judging panel to decide the shortlist for this year’s awards in association with Wheatley Group.

The Herald:

Now in its 12th year, the well-established event is supported by evh, Turcan Connell and YouthLink Scotland. The awards give an inspiring indication of the scale, imagination, and results achieved in Scotland’s public and third sectors.

Wheatley Foundation Director Lorraine McLaren said: “At Wheatley our mission is ‘Making Homes and Lives Better’ for the hundreds of thousands of people we work for across Scotland.

“We’re delighted to be supporting this year’s Herald Society Awards and wish all the finalist’s good luck, particularly those in the team of the year and young people’s project categories.” We look forward to hearing about the work being done to change people’s lives for the better and to hearing who the winners are.”

Director at evh Eamonn Connolly said: “At evh we know from our day to day work supporting social employers that there are many unsung heroes quietly working away, giving care, time and attention to providing support and innovation in their communities – really stepping up to make a huge difference for their fellow citizens.

"The Herald Society Awards are the perfect vehicle for these unsung heroes to be drawn into the light and recognised for the wonderful work they do.” Always a highlight in our calendar, we look forward to being there on the evening to hear the finalists’ stories, which never fail to impress or touch us. We have no doubt they will all once again be worthy potential winners and it will be an exciting reveal for the audience.”

Kenneth Pinkerton, Legal Director at Turcan Connell, said: “Congratulations to those shortlisted for the Turcan Connell-sponsored Partnership Award. It was a competitive category with an increased number of entrants from all across Scotland. That’s particularly pleasing because it evidences a growing number of collaborations taking place between the public and voluntary sectors. That recognition deserves to be highlighted and celebrated.”

“I look forward to meeting with the finalists at the awards ceremony and learning more about their work and results. It will be an inspiring and humbling evening.”

Tim Frew, CEO, YouthLink Scotland, said: “Delighted to see a really strong line up of finalists for the Improving Young People’s Lives Award sponsored by YouthLink Scotland. We know in the youth work sector, that practice which puts young people at the centre of their learning and development, is life changing. Good luck to all of those shortlisted.”

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on November 6 at DoubleTree by Hilton, Glasgow, and will be hosted by Jennifer Reoch. To attend please visit www.newsquestscotlandevents.com/events/societyawards/ .
