A CITY toy bank collection which goes to cash-strapped families in Glasgow has been launched for 2019.

The Community and Beyond Toy Bank have helped hundreds of families at Christmas since it began several years ago.

John Beattie, from Govan, started the collection after he recognised that there was a need to help families over Christmas. He had been collecting for city foodbanks and spotted there was no provision for Christmas.

Struggling families are referred to the toy bank by social workers, foodbanks and the charity Children 1st as well as other organisations.

The collection is then organised by an army of volunteers who are waiting for the public to donate brand new toys so that they can get them to families in time for Christmas.

You can donate to the collection which will be based at the Riverside Hall, 29 to 31 Clydebrae Street, Govan on Monday to Friday, 10 am to 3 pm, Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 10 am to 1 pm.

In a statement, John said: "The Community and Beyond Toy Bank will be operational again this Christmas to help struggling families across the West of Scotland provide their children with gifts.

"We hope that you continue the wonderful support you have given us since 2015. Each year we get bigger and help more children - so let's continue that trend."

New toys can also be donated by purchasing the items online and having them delivered to the base at the Riverside Hall.
