Rage as shoppers queue for hours to find Watt Brothers stock at normal price

Yesterday morning staff and customers were told without any previous warning to leave the store as administrators KMPG moved in on the 104 year old business. 

This morning, hundreds gathered in the hopes of snapping up a bargain, after rumours circulated online last night of a mass sale with prices slashed only to pennies.

Queues gathered from 8AM, although the store did not open until 10AM. When the shutters were eventually opened, customers stampeded inside the store and arguments broke out. But once inside, shoppers emerged angry and disappointed as the sales they expected were found to be non existent. 

Isobel Campbell, 60 from Maryhill, was furious. 

"It was in the news last night that Watt Brothers was reducing it's prices and they've not done it.

"The guy I know who went in came out and told us all - there is nothing. All those people, what are they standing for? There is nothing reduced! 

"I'm very angry."

Prices of items were the same as usual, and some shoppers alleged that some items were even more expensive than usual. The stock from the ten other stores across Watt Brothers had also been moved to the Sauchiehall street store. 

Ryan Rooney, 24 from Maryhill, was one of the few shoppers who emerged with a purchase.

"I bought some knives, still full price as last week. There's no deals. It was mobbed. People are just looking then walking back out. Staff were alright, they weren't really bothering, just letting things happen."
