One person has been injured and a section of motorway running through Dumfries and Galloway has been closed as a result of a two "serious" accidents.

A second crash on the southbound section of the motorway in the same area then occured just as emergency services were re-opening the road, forcing them to close those lanes.

One lane of the southbound carriageway remains closed as emergency services continue their work at the scene. It is understood a medical helicopter has been dispatched.

No details have been released of the vehicles involved in the incidents, although it is understood that a lorry was involved in the first crash.
