Ally McCoist believes Sam Allardyce has called it wrong on his claims that any manager could succeed at Celtic and win trophies.

When asked if it was easy to manage a Scottish club, the former Rangers gaffer said, “No, it's not”, according to the Daily Record.

In his five-year spell at the Ibrox club, McCoist never managed to win the Challenge Cup in an effort Gers fans now call ‘The Journey’ after they dropped to the bottom tier and knows how hard it can be managing a big club in Scotland.

Allardyce made the controversial claim that even though Brendan Rodgers took Celtic to win multiple trophies, any coach could do the same thing.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday night, he said: “We can all go to Celtic and win trophies.

"It will be Rangers soon the way they are going under Steven Gerrard.

"Fans expect you to win trophies and if you don't do that then you'd get the sack.

"I agree with what Brendan was saying and it was a great move for him because it built his reputation again.

"But I didn't think there was anything wrong with him because he was brilliant at Liverpool, just a bad patch of recruitment cost him his job."

McCoist then dismissed ‘doddle’ claims, saying: “You have to say Brendan Rodgers was fantastic at Celtic. Absolutely fantastic so clearly not a doddle.”

He also went on to say that the did agree with Allardyce that Sean Dyche and Eddie Howe both deserve a shot at a big club even though they never managed to win any silverware south of the border.

He added: "Where I would agree with Sam is that those lads need to win a trophy to get a bigger job.

"I love Sean Dyche to bits. He has been superb, as has Eddie Howe and if any British managers deserve an opportunity at a bigger club then it's those two.

"I know what Sam is saying but it's not easy to go and win silverware anywhere. I don't agree with that."
