DEREK MCINNES reckons Aberdeen could have completed a remarkable comeback after being 'murdered' in the first half of their draw with Rangers.

The Dons were staring at another defeat against the Old Firm as Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack netted for Steven Gerrard's side and put them on course for victory.

But Jon Gallagher pulled Aberdeen back into the game before the break and Andy Considine was the hero for the Reds as he struck just after the interval to earn a point.

Sam Cosgrove could have won it for Aberdeen with a second half header and boss McInnes was pleased with a spirited showing from his side.

He said: “I’m delighted with the performance after the first half an hour. We were murdered in the first 30 minutes as Rangers played as they wanted.

“We spoke the last time about not showing enough passion or aggression or being ready to do battle. This time we were too excitable, too rushed in possession and we were probably too pumped up for the game.

“As a consequence we gave the ball away for both goals and at that stage a long night looked ahead as Rangers were bossing it.

“I’ve seen Rangers go on to score three, four or five but it was a great response from my players. They only thing we changed tactically was pulling Lewis Ferguson back one place to get on the ball and what it did was allow Jon Gallagher to get on the ball.

“He got his goal and it was a real shot in the arm from then. We wanted fire and ice from the players. Fire when we wanted it back and composure when we had it.

“As good a point as it is coming back there is a tinge of disappointment that Cosgrove didn’t take his chance as that would have been the perfect comeback for us. At 2-0 down though I’ll take a point.”
