A BRAVE Glasgow shopkeeper stood up to a serial thief who threatened to shoot him during a botched robbery.

Shamas Pervaiz, 50, kept his cool after the armed thug targeted his shop in the city's Ruchill on Saturday night.

Glasgow Times:

The shop owner said: "He threatened me and said if I phoned the police, he would shoot me.

"I said if you are going to shoot me, shoot but I am going to phone the police."

Glasgow Times:

After a stand-off, the robber then made off empty-handed from the Shop Smart store on Bilsland Drive which Mr Pervaiz has run for 11 years.

It was one of three shops he targeted on Saturday night during a robbery spree.

Glasgow Times:

He first robbed a PBH superstore in Maryhill's Sandbank Street at 8.10 pm.

He pointed a handgun and demanded money from a staff member. A small three-figure sum of money was taken before the man left the store.

In exclusive CCTV footage obtained by the Glasgow Times, the thug can be seen entering the shop where he walks to the back and exchanges words with a member of staff.

He then calmly walks towards the counter, points the gun and demands cash while Mr Pervaiz picks up the phone to call the police.

A customer walks into the shop and he calmly leaves.

Some 30 minutes later, he then targets the Scotmid Convenience Store on South Mains Road, Milngavie.

A handgun was again pointed at staff and he left with an unknown sum of money.

Mr Pervaiz said: "I was scared but I did not want to show that.

"I didn't want to hand the money over. If I give it one time, he will come back.

"We work really hard for that money, we work 15 hours a day to make money."

Police believe the same man is responsible for all three incidents.

He is described as between 5ft 8 inches and 5ft 10 inches tall and of slim to medium build.

He was wearing a black jacket with the hood up, a balaclava covering his face, black jogging bottoms, and white trainers.

Detective Sergeant Neil Guy of Glasgow’s Robbery Unit said: “Thankfully no one has been injured as a result of these robberies and attempted robberies.

“Each of the staff members has been left evidently shaken and there are additional patrols in the area for the time being.

“We believe that this man is responsible for the three incidents and I would urge anyone who witnessed someone matching this description, or someone acting suspicious in any of the three areas, to get in contact with police.

“I would also ask any drivers that may have dashcam footage that could assist with our investigation to get in touch.”
