Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has slapped down a troll over news of his son signing a deal to join Hibs.

Thomson was excited to show a photo of his boy Jackson, nine, penning a deal to join the Edinburgh side earlier this week.

The ex-midfielder wrote: "Proud of my wee man tonight!! Signing for the hibees!! Many moons ago I done the same thing, just a tad older!! Just hope they love playing for as long as they can, kids need to love playing!!"

In response one Twitter user opted for a snide reply, referencing unsubstantiated comments that Thomson would have "crawled along the M8 on broken glass" to sign for Rangers a number of years ago while he was still a Hibs player.

The fan wrote: "How many years will pass before he's walking along the M8 on broken glass like his dad before him?"

Thomson was having none of it and instantly snapped back. "He’s 9 mate, grow up you clown!!! Signed for hibs and he’s happy and I will support him as much as I can, I will be his biggest fan!! You should try it, being humble and nice for a change!!"

Celtic legend Simon Donnelly also had a pop, adding: "What a d***, good luck kid".

Thomson's response garnered more than 3,600 likes in a short space of time with hundreds of Gers fans backing their former player.
