Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi is celebrating after being named Best New Artist and winning Song Of The Year at the Brit Awards.
The star scooped the Song Of The Year title for hit single Someone You Loved.
Accepting his award, he said: “A lot of people think it is about my ex-girlfriend, who you can now see every night on Love Island.
“It was actually about my grandmother, who sadly passed away a few years ago.
“Thank you so much, this has been the best year of my life.”
Neneh Cherry’s daughter, Mabel, who opened the show at London’s O2 Arena with an energetic performance of her song Don’t Call Me Up, said it was “an honour” as she was presented with the Female Solo Artist prize.
London rapper Dave won Album Of The Year for Pyschodrama after calling the Prime Minister a “racist”.
In a newly-written verse for the single Black he highlighted the Government response to the Grenfell fire, saying: “The truth is our Prime Minister is a real racist”.
Grime star Stormzy thanked the women in his team after collecting the Male Solo Artist award.
He said: “To be the best male, I have got the most incredible females in my team. You lot are the greatest, the best male is nothing without the best females. I love you guys.”
After winning the International Male Solo Artist award, Tyler, The Creator made fun of former prime minister Theresa May, whom he said had previously stopped him entering the country.
He said: “Thank you Theresa May. I know she’s at home p****d off.”
The ceremony was hosted by Jack Whitehall, who paid tribute to TV presenter Caroline Flack – who took her own life at the weekend – describing her as “a member of the Brits family”.
The winner of Best Group was Foals, while the International Female Solo Artist was Billie Eilish.
