Bayer Leverkusen have been dealt another hammer blow ahead of their Europa League showdown with Rangers after Germany international Nadiem Amiri was ruled out through injury.

The 23-year-old, who boasts three full caps for Die Mannschaft, suffered a shuddering shoulder knock during Wednesday’s 3-1 DFB-Pokal win over Union Berlin.

The waspish winger had to be replaced at half-time and subsequent scans have confirmed that he faces a spell on the sidelines and is likely to miss both matches against the Gers.

Amiri played the full 90 minutes in both legs against Porto in Leverkusen’s last-32 triumph and would have likely been a key man in the encounters with the Light Blues.

A Leverkusen spokesperson confirmed: “Nadiem Amiri suffered a shoulder injury in the home game against the team from Berlin. He will be out for the upcoming fixtures.

“The Germany international, who had to be substituted at half-time due to the injury, will now start rehab at the Werkstatt in the BayArena.”

Amiri’s setback follows hot on the heels of the news that captain Lars Bender is a major doubt for the first leg at Ibrox next week due to a thigh strain.

Star striker Kevin Volland, meanwhile, is a long-term absentee due to an ankle issue.
