THE daughter of Billy McNeill has issued a heartbroken plea more than two weeks after her son vanished while on holiday in Amsterdam.

Matthew McCombe has not been seen since going missing from his hotel in the Dutch capital at around 6.15am on March 14.

He was there to celebrate his 21st birthday.

His mum is now "begging" the Celtic family for their help to find him.

CCTV captured Matthew leaving his hotel before being later spotted at Amsteldijk at 6.44am, wearing a light grey or white Northern Rock jumper.

He was later seen on the Berlagebrug heading east at around 8.15am.

Now, his desperate mum Paula - the daughter of Celtic's Lisbon Lions legend Billy McNeill - has issued a heartbroken appeal to try and trace him.

She posted on Facebook: "I am the daughter of Billy McNeill.

"I'm reaching out to you, the Celtic family, begging for your help to find my son, Matthew McCombe.

"He has been missing in Amsterdam for over 2 weeks now and we are desperate to find him and bring him home. Our hearts are broken.

"I beg you all to please share the post below, publicly, on your own social media pages and to as many groups as you can, so that it reaches as many people as possible in the hope that somebody somewhere has seen Matthew or can give us any information at all of where he may be."

Paula added: "If you have or know of anybody with connections in Amsterdam or kind of links to Amsterdam PLEASE ask them to also share the post below.

"Words cannot explain how desperate we are to find our son. PLEASE please help us."

Paula and her husband Charlie also appeared on Dutch television last night as they continued their appeal.

Charlie said: “For some reason, we don’t know why, he left the hotel room at 6.15am.

“I had a text at 1.36am. I’d asked him earlier, ‘How was it?’, and he texted back saying, ‘Class night’.

“We don’t know what’s happened. We just ask the people if they can jog their memories back to that Saturday – and if they have seen him, let us know, so we can find out where he might be.

“And if anybody has Matthew, please give him back to his mum and dad. We need to have him.”

Breaking down in tears, he added: “We can’t cope without him. He’s all I live for. He has to come home.”

Celtic Football Club previously urged people to keep a look out for the 21-year-old.

And footballing legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has also asked his 880,000 Twitter followers to help in the search.

Sharing a Dutch article, he said: “Celtic legend Billy McNeill’s 21 year old grandson, Matthew, went missing on Saturday in Amsterdam.

“If anyone is able to help his family to find him, it would be very much appreciated by all.

“The McNeill family has been close to Marine and I for many years.”

Billy McNeill captained Celtic's Lisbon lions team to victory in the 1967 European Cup.

He sadly passed away in April last year, aged 79.
