The Pavilion Theatre has issued an update to customers amid postponed shows during the coronavirus pandemic.

We told on March 16 how the city centre venue announced it would be closing its doors for two months in an attempt to stop the spread of the illness.

And they have today confirmed that has been extended - with all shows up to June 30, 2020 being rescheduled or cancelled.

A statement from venue bosses reads: "We have been receiving messages from customers regarding forthcoming shows, most specifically Rally Roon The Rangers and other productions beyond and apologise that we have not responded directly regarding these.

"At the present time, most of our staff have been furloughed and we have been concentrating with the few staff left working on rescheduling other shows and dealing with refunds and exchanges."

The popular show Rally Roon The Rangers, which is set to start on July 16, has already sold out.

Pavilion bosses say they will have a decision on whether or not that will go ahead by April 17.

Their statement continues: "Currently, we are trying to be patient with shows after this time to avoid a knee jerk reaction and cancelling these too early.

"As we are sure you know, as the days go on, things are continually changing very quickly and the timescale for lockdown conditions seem to go anywhere between three weeks to 13 weeks, and even beyond.

"With this in mind, it is our intention to decide on whether the show ‘Rally Roon The Rangers’ will be going ahead by Friday April 17 and will let everyone know one way or the other at that time.

"We will then assess the rest of our shows after this point in a chronological order and again, will keep everybody informed should the situation change regarding whether these shows will be going ahead."

Venue bosses said they are "staying hopeful", adding that it "would be a great show to reopen with but at present, only time will tell".

"We hope you can bear with us and we will endeavour to respond quicker to questions raised in the future for all future shows.

"Please stay safe and continue to adhere to the government guidelines as the more we do, the quicker this virus will go back to where it came from."
