A man showed up with a bow-and-arrow to a Salt Lake City protest as protests and riots escalated across the US following the death of George Floyd.

The man, who later identified himself to local television as Brandon McCormick, parked alongside the protest and took a bow and arrow out of his car before appearing to threaten protesters with it, who then surround him.

One protestor filming the incident shouted to the man with the bow and arrow, saying: ‘You call yourself an American?’

He responded: ‘Yes I’m American, all lives matter!’

The man then aimed his arrow at other protestors as if he were about to shoot.

Following the incident KUTV news reporter Kelly Vaughen said at least 15 people pinned McCormick to his vehicle and began punching, kicking and throwing things at him.

Protestors are said to have looted and flipped McCormick’s car before setting it on fire. It has been reported that McCormick has been taken into police custody following the incident.

The event occurred as George Floyd protests and riots escalated into violence in some parts of the US.

More than 1,300 people have been arrested in 16 cities since Thursday, with more than 500 of those happening in Los Angeles on Friday.

Tens of thousands of people were in streets across the country on Saturday, many not wearing masks or observing social distancing, raising concerns about the potential spread of the coronavirus just as society is reopening.
