RANGERS are said to be keen on Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu, with reports in France claiming that the Ibrox club have made enquiries for the 27-year-old.

Get French Football News have cited "several sources" that say Steven Gerrard is keen on the South African internationalist and is currently mulling over a bid for the defensive midfielder.

They're also reporting that Gerrard has made enquiries over Zungu's availabilty.

It could be a tricky signing for Rangers to pull off though, with Zungu previously stating that Spain was his preferred destination.

RCD Mallorca were reportedly interested on the midfielder in January, leading Amiens to slap a €2-3million price tag on him.

Zungu says he is "ready for a new challenge" - but hopes his future lies in La Liga or the Premier League.

He told GFFN: "I almost left in January, and I think the club understands and they know that I’m looking to spread my wings, to get a new challenge, and to be honest I’m ready for that.

"But you don’t know what the future holds. I love the club; the president is amazing, and the fans. But personally I would like to move on with my career, and hopefully it happens.

"I would love to play in Spain, in La Liga. I think the league is nice, the teams play football, and yeah I would like to hopefully get a club in Spain.

"I would like to play in the Champions’ League, or maybe one day play in England. I don’t know, you never know! So play in the Champions’ League, play in England or in La Liga in one of the big teams."
