Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told of his pride at Jordan Henderson guiding Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 30 years.

The Anfield icon passed the captain's armband over to Henderson before he left the club having failed to lift the trophy during his time on Merseyside. Henderson has gone on to seal the Champions League trophy as skipper last season and now the domestic cup, too.

And, in a social media post, Gerrard beamed with pride that his pal had managed serious success as Liverpool captain. Sharing a heartwarming photo on Instagram of the two together, Gerrard wrote: "Couldn’t of(sic) passed it to a better person . Proud of you mate ❤️ @jhenderson".

The snap garnered more than 543,000 likes including from ex-Rangers star Martyn Waghorn. And plenty more fans loved the gesture from the Light Blues manager.

One said: "That's absolute magic," and another wrote: "My two favourite LFC." One supporter added: "This is enough to make a grown man cry". A fourth wrote: "I'm not crying, you're crying."

Liverpool sealed the title after Chelsea beat closest rivals Man City 2-1 earlier this week. Jurgen Klopp's men are currently 23 points clear with seven games remaining.

We told how Klopp dedicated the trophy victory to Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish in an emotional Sky Sports interview.
