THE stars of Line of Duty have had a promising catch-up via Zoom call.

Scottish actor Martin Compston revealed that the online conference was held with co-stars Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar. The show's creator Jed Mercurio was also involved.

Greenock-born Compston said: "Lovely Line of Duty catch-up with Jed Mercurio, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar. Bottom two video squares had Adrian at a desk in a shirt and blazer on one side, Vicky lying on her couch in a dressing gown in the other side. Says it all really."

The call comes after we reported in February that series six of the hit BBC police drama had begun filming. But like all TV and film productions in the UK, it came to a halt a month later because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The show was in production in Belfast before it was suspended. It was expected to air this year but reports have suggested it maybe 2021 before fans get a chance to see the new episodes.

The BBC have yet to reveal when filming will resume.

The new series is set a year and a half on from the events of series five and will feature a brand new case for AC-12, focused on an enigmatic detective chief inspector.

It has already been announced that Scot Kelly Macdonald will star as the DCI in question – Joanne Davidson – a senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case.

The show's creator Jed also shared an image of the catch-up on Twitter in a bid to encourage fans to wear a facemask in support of the NHS - and he took the opportunity to play on the Line of Duty phrases we have all come to know.

He said: "If AC-12 caught someone wearing a mask, chances are they'd be part of an Organised Crime Group.

"Now OCG stands for #ObserveCoViDGuidelines.

"Line of duty says wear a mask to prevent people around you catching the Coronavirus, helping to shield the vulnerable and protect the NHS."
