Pret a Manger has confirmed 12 staff members are to be made redundant at its Glasgow Fort store.

We reported last week that the Glasgow Pret was set to close permanently after the chain's sales took a huge hit due to Covid-19.

30 stores across the UK will not reopen their doors after Pret's sales saw a 74 per cent drop year on year.

Confirming the Glasgow redundancies, a Pret spokeswoman said: "We have taken the difficult decision to not reopen our Glasgow Fort shop.

"We’re incredibly grateful to all our Team Members and will be doing what we can to help them find new job opportunities.

“Although we are working hard to adapt Pret to the new retail environment, the coronavirus pandemic has massively affected our industry and it is no longer financially viable for us to continue operations at this shop.”

The coffee chain has revealed that at least 1000 jobs are at risk across the UK, as it is forced to restructure the company.

Discussions are also ongoing with landlords across its estate to develop a more “sustainable” model, after external advisers were hired.
