A TAXI driver left a woman in a wheelchair after hitting her as she crossed the road.
James McWilliams failed to spot Isla MacLeod as she and her husband returned from a gig in Glasgow city centre in April 2018.
The 64-year-old - who worked for the city's Hampden Taxis at the time - did not slow down or keep a proper lookout to avoid the collision.
McWilliams was yesterday ordered to carry out 75 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to careless driving.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Mrs MacLeod suffered multiple skull fractures after being hit by the Ford Kuga on the city's Hope Street.
Prosecutor Adele Macdonald said she had to use a wheelchair for five months.
The fiscal added: “She has impaired mobility and can’t cycle nor run.
“She is nervous and volatile and has no sense of taste or smell.
“It has had a difficult impact on her life. She retired due to ill health having originally planned to retire at 65.”
McWilliams, of Cambuslang, was banned from driving in 2019 following a separate incident.
He was handed a further six month disqualification.
