A THUG attempted to bite a first aider during an Old Firm cup final before making sectarian remarks to him.

Robert Thomson assaulted Darren Miller at the League Cup final at Hampden Park last December.

The 19-year-old Rangers fan also grabbed the body of another first aider Claire Burns at the stadium’s West Stand.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Thomson behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly swearing and uttering sectarian remarks to Mr Miller. Celtic went on to win the final by a single goal scored by Christopher Jullien in the second half.

Thomson pleaded guilty on Friday to the assault on Mr Miller and breach of the peace which included grabbing Ms Burns and making sectarian comments.

His lawyer Ashley Pollock, defending, told the court Thomson has since handed back his season ticket.

Sentence was deferred until next month by Sheriff Ian Miller where more information regarding the circumstances will be heard.

Thomson, of Kilsyth, had his bail continued pending background reports.
