The Edinburgh bar group, Boda Bars, which owns and operates seven bars in the capital, stated that its Victoria Bar will be closed until Friday 21 August and all staff that were on duty when the customer visited will self-quarantine for the next 14 days.

Anna Lagervist Christopherson, Boda Bars co-owner, said that only a handful of customers were in the building at the same time as that customer, and that he didn’t visit any other pubs or restaurants.

Ms. Christopherson said:

"I made the decision to close the bar.

"We found out at midnight last night that there had been someone with a case at the bar on Friday afternoon.

“We are grateful to our customer for informing us of his positive test result as soon as he received it and we immediately took the decision to close Victoria’s in order to protect the welfare of our customers and employees.

“It is believed that he may have been infected during a recent holiday in Malta and only visited Victoria’s for a soft drink on Friday afternoon, before experiencing symptoms over the weekend.  We wish him well during his recovery and want to ensure our customers and employees that thorough cleaning and sanitisation measures have been taken."

She added that the man was in Victoria Bar between 4:45pm and 6pm and that he didn’t visit anywhere else.

The owner has said that they are awaiting to be contacted by NHS Trace and Protect.
