A PUPIL at a North Lanarkshire school has tested postive for Covid-19. 

The youngster from St Margaret's High, in Airdrie, is now in self-isolation after being confirmed to have the virus earlier this month. 

Contact tracing is underway and education chiefs have moved to reassure parents and pupils there is no wider threat to the public.

A letter sent to parents from Dr S Josephine Pravinkumar, consultant in Public Health Medicine at NHS Lanarkshire, read: "NHS Lanarkshire's Test and Protect team is carrying out contact tracing after a pupil at St Margaret's High School tested positive for Covid-19. 

"They are currently self-isolating at home.

"NHS Lanarkshire is working closely with North Lanarkshire Council with regards to the case and is in the process of contacting close contacts. 

"Our Test and Protect teams will continue to contact anyone who may be affected. Public health advice is being given to these individuals.

"Following the findings of a review, there is no evidence to siggest that there is transmission in the schoo. The risk to the wider school community is low and the school will remain open."
