A FLOOD warning alert has been put in place for Greater Glasgow - as Scotland braces itself for the arrival for Storm Barbara.

Bosses at SEPA say heavy and persistent rain throughout yesterday and today could cause rivers and surface water to overflow.

A yellow weather warning has been in place in the city since Monday with Glasgow and the West battered by torrential storms.

A SEPA warning reads: "A period of heavy and persistent rain through Monday and into Tuesday could cause flooding from rivers and surface water.

"Particularly at risk are urban areas and the transport network.

"Impacts may include flooding of low-lying land and roads, with difficult driving conditions.

"Isolated properties may also be at risk.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property."

Storm Barbara - named in Spain - is unlikely to have a severe impact in the UK, but will bring with it heavy rain.
