DETECTIVES have launched a murder probe after a man was found dead inside a house in North Lanarkshire.

The body of Daniel Greer was discovered at his home on Rankin Crescent, in Greengairs on the outskirts of Airdrie, at around 12.55pm on Monday.

The 33-year-old had not been seen since Friday before he was killed in a "violent assault".

A post mortem examination has taken place and detectives are now treating his death as murder.

Relatives are aware and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Jamieson, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team (East), said: “Mr Greer died as a result of a violet assault and at this time we are trying to establish a motive for his attack.

“He was last seen on Friday, 16 October, 2020, therefore we must find out his movements between then until he was discovered within his home on Monday, 19 October, 2020.

“We believe that Mr Greer may have been assaulted elsewhere before he returned to his home.

“It is vital that we find the person or persons responsible for such a horrendous assault. Anyone who has seen Mr Greer since Friday, 16 October, 2020 or anyone who witnessed a disturbance or argument over the weekend near to Rankin Crescent is asked to contact police immediately.

“There will be additional officers in the Greengairs area to support the local community and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to these officers."
